What. A. Week. I am utterly exhausted, emotional and overwhelmed at the moment. (Sorry to be a downer, but I like to keep it real.) I think I need a bit of rest and relaxation, which (unfortunately) won't be on the agenda until Sunday. I really appreciate everyone's kindness and patience with me this week. I've fallen a bit behind on emails but am working on them and am aiming to be all caught up Monday. Dallas Shops: Dirt

Hello! I'm back today with another Dallas shop tour. The Bishop Arts District is one of my favorite areas in Dallas. There are amazing restaurants, cool little shops, and inspiration galore. One of my most favorite occupants is the sweet little floral shop, DIRT. I adore everything about it: the uniquely potted plants, stunning floral arrangements, creative vignettes and styling, friendly staff and adorable shop pups running around. We came away with several gorgeous succulents, which are pretty idiot proof for those without a green thumb (like myself.) The staff graciously gave me specific instructions on how to care for my plants, which I appreciated. They have two locations in Dallas, one in Bishop Arts and one downtown. Here's a little peek into their Bishop Arts shop. Enjoy!

Dallas Shops: Milk & Honey

As you know from previous posts, I love sharing peeks into my favorite local shops. It just so happens that I have two to share this week, starting with this one from Milk & Honey. I adore this charming little boutique; it has an Anthropologie-esque feel, but with prices that are much more budget friendly. The pieces are unique and stylish and the atmosphere/decor is downright inspiring.

If you're in the Dallas area, I highly recommend adding Milk & Honey to your 'must visit' list. I hope you enjoyed this little tour; stay tuned for another later this week!

Dear friends...I wanted to take a moment to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your kind comments and emails about our sweet Izzy touched me beyond belief, often bringing tears to my eyes. Yesterday I spent time with Mama Fabulous, which was much needed, especially with the busy week I have ahead. I'm back to work today; ready to tackle the emails in my inbox and get back to designing. We miss Izzy so much and I find comfort in the fact that so many of you completely understand the loss. I can't even express how much it means to me...thank you so much for caring. xo, k

Hello, friends. I had another post intended for today, but wanted to share my heavy heart instead. If you've been reading my blog for a while then you know I'm an animal lover, especially when it comes to dogs. I am incredibly sad to say that we unexpectedly lost our dog Izzy last night. She has a history of seizures, which she would normally pull out of after 5-10 minutes. Last night they were non-stop for hours and her temperature was a steady 105. I can still picture her sweet face in utter agony. My heart is truly broken.

I sit here in tears, writing this post. I am sure for some it's hard for some to understand the amount of utter sadness, but in our family the dogs are like kids. Please say a prayer for us, and the other dogs as they are beginning to realize that something is different. I find comfort in the fact that this morning Izzy is joyfully running like in the photo above in the fields of heaven. xo, k

I always have some sort of mental 'wish list' going in my head; items I keep an eye out for when I'm out and about. Right now, I have two in particular.

sources: decorative bust // shams

I really want a decorative bust for my statement necklaces. It needs to be a certain size...small enough to not get in the way, but substantial enough to hold several pieces. I think this one from Pottery Barn is the front runner, especially since I received a gift card to there for Christmas.

The shams on the other hand...I can't seem to find. I'm looking for an affordable option which seems to be few and far between (especially since I'm looking for scallops and colorful thread options.) If you know of any, please share!

It's was 70 degrees here yesterday, and felt more like spring than mid-January. Today however, the cold is back. Even though it's chilly outside, it's sunny in here with this cheerful color combo: lime + turquoise. This combination is one of those that my design clients often refer to as one of their favorites, and for good reason. It's punchy, bright and modern. Is it a favorite of yours?

It seems colorful front doors are quite the rage right now, and I have to admit, I love them. The unexpected pop of color is the perfect way to greet your visitors with a cheerful hello. I'm partial to the green, yellow and hot pink, especially when paired with brass accents. Do you have a colorful front door? Would you ever consider painting yours a bold color?

Camel is a color I've really gravitated towards lately; I even used a couple of gift cards from Christmas to pick up a few new camel colored sweaters. Happy New Year, dears! Now that we're all coming out of our holiday fog, it's time to talk resolutions. One of mine relates to blogging, which is to comment on blogs more; something that I don't do often enough. In the past few months it seems all I have time for is a quick skim over my google reader, but with 2012 here I resolve to take the time to fully enjoy the blogs I read (clicking to the actual site and commenting on the posts I enjoy on a daily basis.) Comments are so important in the blogging community; everyone enjoys the confirmation that the time they put into their posts is paying off. Starting today, I shall practice what I preach.

That being said, let's get reacquainted, say hello for the first time or make new blog discoveries. Feel free to share your blog address in the comments (notes) section below, and be sure to explore the other blogs shared. Hello, dears! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas weekend! It's hard to believe that this is the last week of the year. It's going to be quite busy for me (so things may be a little bit quieter on the blog this week.)

Today is exciting though because I am sharing another Girl Fabulous post, this time Meg of Mimi + Meg. When I was thinking about how to describe her, the word that kept coming to mind was 'cool'. Because that's what she is...cool. And stylish. And smart. (The list goes on and on.) Her blog is not only beautiful, but is filled with great information for bloggers. Oh, and on top of that she's also an amazing artist. Let's get to know her a bit better, shall we?

Abstract art. Brass sculpture. Rugs. Kelly Wearstler's line of accessories & home decor. Black & Gold. Metallics. I love Rebecca Minkoff, DANNIJO, House of Harlow, Equipment blouses, DVF. My Apple laptop & desktop. Jonathan Adler pottery. Edgy jewelry. Leather. Warm weather. Coffee, tea, water and my juicer. I juice my veggies because I'm not a huge fan of vegetables, but actually like them in juice form.

I love all types of colors and patterns, red and pink is a current fave. But I'm a huge fan of black, white, gold, and neutrals. A mixture of neutrals, or black & gold together.

Black leggings or skinny jeans with a great top, wedges or heels, a great bag and the right amount of accessories. I usually tend to wear black & gold and I love edgy jewelry, a great leather bag, and manicure.

December Birchbox

Hello, dears! As I mentioned last month, I'm posting my Birchbox contents every month; not because they've asked me to, but because it's so much fun sharing new beauty finds. I'm gonna keep it real with you...this month my experience was less than perfect. My box arrived really late and I'm a little disappointed with the samples. Take a peek:

They've introduced me to two of my new favorite brands (Jouer and Zoya) which I would have never tried on my own. And...they credited my account with 100 Birchbox points, good towards a full sized product (hello, lip gloss!) How was your Birchbox this month? Christmas is only 8 days away...how crazy is that? My Christmas cards have been mailed and I'm done shopping and wrapping (except for one gift which should be here on Monday.) This is amazing for me; I'm usually a last minute shopper. I'll be spending the next 7 days wrapping up with my design clients and enjoying the Christmas cheer that's in the air. My wish for all of you is weekend that looks like this...

Relaxing in comfy pajamas(1) and slippers(8) with a cozy throw(9), while sipping some peppermint hot chocolate(3) in cute red(5) + green(6) mugs; flipping through the latest Lucky(6) and InStyle(7) while watching The Holiday(2). Sounds lovely, doesn't it? Enjoy your weekend, dears!

ready for Christmas

Today Tucker had his first haircut. He has shaggy, messy hair (which is really cute) but I wanted to get it cleaned up a bit. I used my parent's mobile groomer, which is great because they come to your house and take the pup to their gigantic truck outside for the grooming. I was so nervous for him, but he did great (and looks pretty darn cute, too!)

He came back in with that little Christmas scarf on. Adorable.

Happy Friday, dears! I am pleased as punch to be sharing a new holiday favorite with you, thanks to the delightful Julie of Joy's Hope. You see the cookies in the photo above? They're White Chocolate Cranberry Cream Cheese Snickerdoodles and are my new holiday favorite. Mama Fabulous spotted the recipe on Julie's blog and decided to make a batch. Let me just tell you...they are scrumptious. (You know they're good when they're described using a word like that.) If you don't have anything going on this weekend then you should whip some up for yourself. (The recipe is here.) Did I mention they're delicious?

I'm pretty excited about the weekend ahead; I have an appointment at Drybar and the annual toy drive party that my friends host is Saturday night. Sunday I am attending the dedication of baby Jack, the son of my good friends Derek + Kat. I'm looking forward to a little pampering and holiday socializing with my favorite people.

Growing up, we always had a real tree. I have fond memories of going to the tree lot and walking down the aisles in search of the perfect tree. Every year, it always seemed to work out to be a cold, drizzly day when we would get out tree, and we'd cozy up with a fire to decorate it. Sadly, I haven't ever had my own real tree (only artificial) but I vow to have a real one next year. And when I go to pick it out on a cold, drizzly day I want to wear something like this:

gold sequin + glitter ornaments

This year, I decided I wanted to make some ornaments using sequins and glitter. My tree is white with gold and silver trimmings so I opted for clear ornaments with gold. This is possibly the easiest DIY I've ever done...it's literally funneling glitter and sequins into the glass balls. The hardest part was keeping the glitter in check. (Helpful hint: I used a spoon to feel my glitter into a tiny paper funnel that I made. And I did that inside a plastic bag so the glitter didn't get every where.) So, without further ado, here they are:

I have seen really cute versions where bloggers have glued sequins or glitter to the inside/outside of the ornaments, but I wanted mine to be pooled at the bottom. I love how they turned out; what do y'all think?

Can you believe it's already the first weekend in December? Has the holiday hustle and bustle already hit at your house? I had my first Christmas party of the season last night, and that paired with the gloomy weather today has me feeling pretty dang tired. Luckily I don't have too much on the agenda other than to work on catching up on emails. (I might have lost control of my inbox over the Thanksgiving holiday...eek!)

Have you decorated yet? My tree and lights are up, and I've started my holiday shopping. I'm working on my Christmas cards and hope to have them done and out by this time next week. We're expecting a cold snap this weekend and the weatherman is talking possible sleet with the rain expected. I love it because it feels so Christmassy. This morning I downloaded a bunch of Christmas carols from iTunes and have enjoyed designing to all my favorite songs. Oh, how I love this time of year!

A little sidenote for my Dallas friends: The Dallas Flea is tomorrow! The vendor line-up looks amazing, and includes 2 of my favorites: Paradise Design Co. + The Pink Pagoda.

Let the holiday madness begin! I've got quite the busy weekend planned. 1. Twilight Breaking Dawn & The Hunger Games: I am totally geeking out here. I read (& loved!) both of these series and am beyond excited about these movies. Bonus: Breaking Dawn opens this week! (Please tell me I'm not alone in my excitement here.)

2. The Container Store Lacquered Boxes: These come in a variety of shapes and colors and are very affordable. I picked up a magenta + orange set for my desk.

3. Kate Spade Kiki wedges: I love the python print in a comfort friendly wedge; I'd wear them with everything.

4. Revlon Just Bitten lipstain: I'm a fan of lipstains but they can be drying. This one is moisturizing and has a pretty color selection.

5. Zoya nailpolish in Sooki: Move over Essie, I have a new favorite nail polish brand. Discovered via Birchbox, this red is perfect for holiday parties, and the smooth formula makes application a breeze.

It's a huge space with aisle after aisle, booth after booth of everything from antiques, home decor, clothing and accessories. We find ourselves going quite often as the goodies change frequently. happy weekend + a new favorite

Last night I had the privilege of having my first Drybar experience, thanks to an invite by my fabulous stylist, Sasha. Drybar is opening their 2nd Dallas location at the Shops at Legacy today, and I was thrilled to get a sneak peek at the new shop. Drybar only does blowouts, and let me tell you...they are good. I loved everything about it, from white, gray and yellow decor to the "menu" where you select the style you want. (For the record, I went with their signature, The Straight-Up.)

While I sat in my chair I watched '27 Dresses' and relaxed. My favorite part of the entire night was when my stylist turned my chair around at the end for the 'big reveal'. The whole time she worked, I was faced away from the mirror so it was a total I-got-a-makeover kind of moment. (See the mirrors behind the chairs? So fun!)

I also met the lady behind it all: Alli Webb. She was kind, gracious and had the best hair I've ever seen, naturally. I honestly never considered myself the type to go get a blowout but Drybar has changed that. If you see me out and about with some majorly fabulous hair this holiday season, now you'll know why. Consider me officially obsessed.

Dallas Market Week

Hello, friends! It's so good to be back to my normal routine. As I mentioned before, I spent the entire week (Monday to today) working 'market' in Dallas. For those that aren't familiar, market is where stores/buyers go to purchase products from various lines. The market I was participating in was for women + kids, but there are all kinds throughout the year (interior design, gift, etc.) I was working with a NYC based line called Bari Lynn in one of the best kid's showrooms in Dallas. It was my first time working market; the days were long and completely exhausting but so much fun. I learned so much and am walking away feeling beyond inspired and excited about all the opportunities on the horizon for next year.

I feel like I say this all the time, but this week went by so quickly! I've got a pretty fun weekend planned...my parents are hosting a watching party for the Notre Dame/USC game. We love Notre Dame and have a long line of alumni in the family; it's definitely the biggest game of the year. (And let's not forget, the Rangers will be playing as well!)

I thought I'd wish you a happy weekend by sharing a few snapshots from my office inspiration board. After seeing countless versions online, I made it using some inexpensive linen fabric, upholstery tacks and a plain bulletin board. It's an ideal backdrop for the all the little things I tack up there.

I have pretty much perfected my fall nail routine. Here are my current favorites:

1. OPI for Sephora Only Gold for Me Topcoat: It looks amazing over everything.

2. Essie Mademoiselle: For when I get tired of dark polish.

3. Deborah Lipmann Stormy Weather: My current favorite dark polish. It's a mix between navy + gray.

4. Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Topcoat: My all time favorite. I am inpatient when it comes to drying time. This speeds up the process, makes my nails super shiny and protects from chips for days and days.

5. Sally Hansen Nail Nutrition Green Tea + Soy Cuticle Oil: I put this on before bed every night. It prolongs my manicure and keeps everything looking neat & tidy.

6. Essie Bahama Mama: I always get compliments when wearing this color. It's a pretty, deep bordeaux.

I discovered this lovely Etsy shop via Pinterest (of, course!) The lemon print was the one that I pinned; I adore the bright pop of color against the black background. I was pleased as punch to see more versions in the shop. Wouldn't they be adorable in a kitchen or breakfast nook?
