simple burlap bunting tutorial

I love burlap. Kind of random, I know. It's not the friendliest of fabrics...but it's absolutely perfect for a shabby, worn look. Now, I also love bunting...so I decided to combine the two and came up with this:

What do you think?
It's such an easy project and really inexpensive, too!

Here's what you'll need:
1 yd of burlap {makes 2 large 4 lettered banners}
twine & large needle
acrylic paint
letter stencils
flat sponge brush
{all can be found at your local craft store}

First, I made a pattern out of card stock and traced it onto my fabric.

I cut out 4 triangles {be sure to cut inside the lines so you don't have any marker lines}. Don't worry about being to clean...the more imperfect, the better.

Next, I stenciled on my letters using pre-cut stencils. I used a flat sponge brush...it works best. Be sure to use a light hand during this part of the process so you'll get a more worn look.

After my lettered triangles were dry, I got my twine and needles...

...and threaded the twine through the top of my triangles, making sure to create a gather. Feel free to also fray the top edge of your triangles for a worn, shabby look.

I repeated until all the letters were strung together, tied off the ends and hung it up! It's so easy and so cute.

I even made a Halloween version!

The possibilities are endless! You could use other fabrics, etc. I can also think of a million places of where to hang these. I think I might even make a monogrammed set and add it to a wreath! Please let me know if you use this tutorial and post about it...I'd love to see your versions. Happy bunting!

  11. I love it so much that I could make out with it. but then I would have marks from the scratchy-ness. Maybe I should just make it and not make out with it.
